Arts, in general, have played a major role in society, shaping people’s minds. It’s a way to alleviate, to find answers or raise questions, to reinforce values, to inspire and bring hope. Art has the power to move people, shake up ideas, bring change, and re-locate perspectives. An artist is a person in constant motion, always searching, investigating their role in relation to their presence and references to the past. Arts can touch emotions and connect with a person’s experiences in a unique way, making people perhaps more aware of the problems or issues a society is facing—in a deeper or different way than politics can.
In times of great instability, Arts and culture have the ability to transform perspectives. Nevertheless, arts require an open and critical society. Many countries still experience significant oppression and censorship. This is where art has the potential to become an open platform for addressing social and political issues, helping society overcome censorship.
Art can bring people together, even when they don’t speak the same language or share the same ethics. The necessity of belonging, social inclusion, the excitement of creativity, the ephemerality of life, and the mystery of the unknown are the strong bonds that connect all different nations, identities, and cultures.
