A collaboration with musician, composer, and performer Thimios Atzakas
The piece addresses the fragmentation of the “self” and the cracks that have opened in the physical and spiritual unity of consciousness. Erma refers to the ballast mass of hardware, rocks, and other materials used to provide draft hulls for boats, offsetting the uneven parts of the vessel and ensuring stability and robust navigation. The two characters in this show navigate their own sea, through continuous emergence and diving into their personal ballast, acting and reacting to their memories. The spiritual concerns, the urge, the longing for freedom, the desire for fulfillment, and the unsatisfied soul are transformed into sound, leading constantly to an agonizing search for a return to indissoluble unity. All of this is conveyed through the human body, in conjunction with live musical performance, within a kaleidoscopic sound installation.
